He offered resistance while being detained.

The man who opened fire on a police officer with a machine gun has been detained in Russia's Rostov region. Russian Governor Vasily Golubev has announced it.

"The offender has been detained. As a result of well-coordinated search operations, he was found in an empty building near Novoshakhtinsk. Investigative actions are under way," the Russian official wrote on his Telegram channel.

According to the Baza telegram channel, the deserter, who opened fire on the police, turned out to be a fighter of the Wagner PMC. The publication writes that the suspect, Pavel Nikolin, was serving a sentence for theft and robbery in the Ufa penal colony-4. He was recruited to the PMC from there. On November 24, Nikolin changed his mind about going to war and escaped.

On December 6, he was spotted near a factory in Novoshakhtinsk - Nikolin attacked police officers and opened fire on them with a Kalashnikov machine gun. The man wounded one officer in the pelvis and then fled. He was searched for about 24 hours and was found in an abandoned pig farm. When detained, Nikolin tried to offer resistance.
