"Sheds Of Discord" Were On Fire In Minsk At Night

The MIA Academy wanted to build a building and a hostel in their place, but the locals were strongly against it.

The sheds near Victory Square were on fire at night, reports the Ministry of Emergencies. The Interior Ministry Academy wanted to build a training building with a canteen and a dormitory for cadets in their place. However, the locals strongly opposed the project and the Minsk City Executive Committee ordered to improve it.

The fire was reported at 11.51pm on February 16. As a result of the fire, 23 sheds on the total area of 120 square meters were damaged. The cause of the fire is being established.

The Interior Ministry Academy planned to build two more buildings in the courtyard, formed between the houses №43 on Independence Avenue, №16 in Chyrvonaya Street and Gymnasium №23.

However, it was necessary to demolish old sheds and occupy part of the courtyard space of nearby residential buildings. In 2021, the project was put up for public discussion and the locals spoke out strongly against it. As a result, the Minsk City Executive Committee recommended to improve the architectural and planning concept and take into account the comments of the discussion participants.
