In Brussels They Suggest Excluding Russia From EU Economy

The European People’s Party has come up with such an initiative.

The European People's Party called on the EU to immediately introduce new sanctions to gradually exclude Russia from the European economy. The reason for the statement of the largest party of the European Parliament was the recognition by Moscow of the separatist “republics” of Donbas.

In the statement, the party called the recognition of the two separatist territories in Ukraine, “DPR” and “LPR”, a blatant violation of international law, the territorial integrity of Ukraine and the Minsk agreements. Apart from that, according to the deputies, the full scope of military support by NATO and EU partners should be on the table for Kyiv, to safeguard European sovereignty and way of life.

On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin first announced Russia's recognition of the independence of the so-called “DPR” and “LPR” and then the entry of Russian troops into the territories controlled by pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine. He instructed them to perform “peacekeeping functions” on the territory of the “DPR” and “LPR”.

The United States and other Western countries have previously stated that in the event of a Russian armed invasion of the territory of Ukraine, they will impose tough sanctions against Russia. Permanent representatives to the EU have already agreed to impose targeted restrictions on Russian citizens and companies involved in the recognition of the separatist territories of Donbas. The sanctions package will be approved by the EU Foreign Ministers.

The German authorities have announced the suspension of the certification of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline from Russia to Germany. The plans to launch the gas pipeline should be reassessed, Chancellor Olaf Scholz said. This will also affect other issues in the sphere of cooperation between Moscow and Berlin.
