There is a queue of 10 thousand people who have applied for a visa to move to Lithuania at the Lithuanian embassy in Minsk. This is reported by delfi.lt, citing the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Egidijus Meilūnas. We are talking about those who are in the priority list of the Ministry of Economy of this country, including scarce workers. IT specialists are among them.
Egidijus Meilūnas said that now there's one diplomat in Minsk, while most of the diplomats were expelled from Belarus at the end of last year. The official said that now there are 10 000 people waiting at the embassy on the priority list, which was submitted by the Ministry of Economy. It will take about three weeks to issue visas to those on the priority list, predicts Egidijus Meilūnas.
"This is in the best case scenario. If it is decided to create another queue for drivers, I can tell you frankly, we will have to put those 10 000 people aside and deal with the drivers. Until April 20, we do not have drivers on the agenda, it would simply be physically impossible," said Foreign Ministry spokesman Audrius Bendinskas.
Egidijus Meilūnas also clarified that the issuance of visas to Russians and Belarusians is not now banned, but restricted. "It's not forbidden to hire employees; acceptance of visa applications in the consular departments is limited. Now an exception is made for employees of companies who are transferred to Lithuania. The Ministry of Economy makes lists of these people, and visas are issued according to these lists," he said.
