Who Carries Bag In Belarusian Families?

Analysts have found the answer.

A survey of Belarusian families shows that financial decisions in the family are taken more often by women than by men. They more often bear the burden of everyday purchases.

During the survey of households, conducted by the National Statistics Committee this year, respondents were asked: "Who in your family makes decisions on disposing of financial resources?

Both men and women more often answered that it is a joint decision. However, more women than men stated that they were responsible for managing the family budget. Men also more often said that their wives manage the money (15.8%).

More often, the decision to make big purchases for the household is taken jointly. The wife is the only person to make this decision in 7.8% of households (women) or 6.2% of households (men).

The women are almost entirely responsible for day-to-day purchases, according to their opinions. The husband's story is that he and his wife do most of the household's everyday shopping together.

Apart from big purchases, another sphere where couples look for consensus is child-rearing. Here almost everyone answers that decisions are made jointly on this issue.

Women, more often than men, consult with their partner about the duration and nature of their work. 31.6% of women state that it is a joint decision of the family. Only 28.5 per cent of men said it was their partner's decision but another 0.9 per cent said it was entirely their wife's decision.

Women and men are equally likely to consult their partners about their studies and social activities.

Men more often than women are satisfied with the distribution of responsibilities within the family. Dissatisfaction in this respect was expressed by 11% of female respondents.
