Kremlin Backpedals Sweden And Finland Joining NATO

Peskov explained the meaning of joining the Alliance of these countries.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Ukraine's membership in NATO differs from Finland and Sweden because Kyiv allegedly has a "territorial dispute" with Moscow.

He is quoted by RIA Novosti, the Kremlin's edition.

"We have no territorial disputes neither with Finland, nor with Sweden. Ukraine can potentially become a member of NATO, and then a territorial dispute will arise between Russia and the member states of the Alliance, creating huge risks for the entire continent.”

Earlier, the Kremlin declared the unacceptability of Finland and Sweden joining NATO. Now Putin's spokesman explains that this is not so bad.
