Pentagon: AFU Drives Russians North And East

The US has highlighted the successes of the Ukrainian counter-offensive.

The Ukrainian military is already successfully launching a counter-offensive and has recaptured several towns in the Donbass that were previously seized by Russian occupiers.

A new impetus to the Ukrainian Armed Forces to repel the enemy has been given by the weapons that the United States and other states have given Ukraine to defend itself against the Russian Federation. A senior Pentagon official said this during a briefing.

"You can already see how the Ukrainians can move to a counter-offensive. In the Donbass, they have taken back several cities that the Russians had captured earlier. And in Kharkiv, it's a great example of them doing more than just defending the city," the US Defence Department official said.

At the same time, he noted the special role in the successful counterattack of the American M777 howitzers, which have been handed over to our state by the US.

"They are now pushing the Russians to the east and north, and we believe that the howitzers have a particular role in this, especially in Kharkiv," the official said.

However, he said it was not only howitzers that had influenced the successful counter-attack, but also other armaments provided by partner states.

Earlier, Ukrainian Defence Minister Oleksiy Reznikov reported that as of this time 74 of the 90 mentioned howitzers from the USA are already involved in counterattacks against the enemy. Such howitzers allow for long-range firing from closed positions.

The United States has provided Ukraine with powerful M777 howitzers

Earlier it was reported that the United States is providing Ukraine with US-made M777 155-mm howitzers to defend against the Russian Federation.

It is a field towed howitzer manufactured by BAE Systems. It is considered the lightest howitzer of its type and can be transported on the external sling of a helicopter.
