Former BT Presenter Detained

Former BT Presenter Detained
DZMITRY LUKSHA

He is accused of “insulting government officials”.

Human rights activists of the Viasna Human Rights Center have learned that journalist Dzmitry Luksha, a former host of the Zone X program on the Belarus 1 TV channel and a freelance correspondent for the Kazakh TV channel Khabar 24, has been behind bars for more than two months. The reason for the detention was the last story for the TV channel.

Dzmitry Luksha was detained on April 11 in an apartment in Minsk. First, he was charged with insulting a government official (Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Belarus), then the organization and preparation of actions grossly violating public order, or active participation in them (Article 342 of the Criminal Code), was added.

Luksha is being held in a pre-trial detention center on Valadarski Street.
