WSJ: US May Send Its Special Forces To Kyiv

The proposal may soon be presented to Biden.

The US Department of Defense and the State Department are discussing the possibility of sending special forces to Kyiv. Their tasks will include the protection of the American embassy in Ukraine.

It is reported by The Wall Street Journal.

According to the sources of the publication, the proposal to send American special forces to Ukraine has not yet been submitted to US President Joe Biden. However, if he approves this initiative, then the troops will be deployed only to protect the embassy in Kyiv, which is within range of Russian missiles.

The interlocutors of the publication note that this refers to several dozen special forces soldiers who will not only strengthen the protection of the embassy, but also prepare the base for the deployment of additional forces if necessary.

Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said no decisions had been made on the matter so far. He added that the Defense Department is in close contact with the State Department regarding the security of the embassy in Kyiv.
