Poland Denounces Agreement With Russia On Gas Supplies

The agreement has been in effect since 1993.

Poland breaks the agreement on gas supplies with Russia, concluded in 1993. This was stated by the Minister of Climate and Environment Anna Moskwa.

"Poland is denouncing the 1993 intergovernmental gas agreement on Yamal. Russia's aggression against Ukraine confirmed the correctness of the intention of the Polish government to become completely independent from Russian gas. We have always known that Gazprom is an unreliable partner," she said.

The so-called "Yamal Agreement" envisaged the creation by Gazprom and PGNiG of a joint venture, EvroPol GAZ, to manage and transit gas pipelines with a capacity of up to 67 billion cubic meters of gas per year. The document also provided for the supply of 14 billion cubic meters of gas per year to Poland.

After the termination of this agreement and the end of the gas contract with Gazprom at the end of the year, the relations between Poland and Russia in the gas sector will be formally terminated. In fact, they are virtually none already. After the refusal of the Polish side to pay for fuel under the scheme provided for by Vladimir Putin's decree, Gazprom stopped gas supplies to Poland.
