Ukraine Convicts Belarusian Spy

He provided information about Ukrainian military movements to the KGB.

A Belarusian, who was detained on March 18 in the Volyn region on suspicion of espionage, was sentenced to five months of arrest without confiscation of property. He was found guilty of an attempt on the territorial integrity of Ukraine, reports Radio Svaboda.

The charges against the man were changed during the consideration of the criminal case. In addition, he made a deal with the investigation, so he received a milder sentence.

The court decision specifies that on the first day of the Russian invasion, the Belarusian provided the KGB officers with the information about the movement of the column of military equipment of the battalion tactical group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Shatsk, Volyn region.

The enemy could use this information to impede the activities of the AFU and other defense forces, as well as to harm the national interests of the country.

The name of the KGB officer, who received the information, is known to the investigation. It was not disclosed in the court's decision.

The court also notes that the Belarusian decided to cooperate with the secret services, as he had acquaintances there. They support "the ideas of the military and political leadership of Belarus and Russia about political, ideological intolerance and hatred towards the Ukrainian nation and statehood".
