New Explosions In Crimea: Military Experts Give Five Reasons

It could be part of the operation to liberate the western bank of the Dnieper.

The US Institute for the Study of War (ISW) said it had no reliable information on the origin and consequences of the explosions that occurred in occupied Crimea on August 18.

Military analysts have listed five possible causes of the recent explosions near Russia's Belbek airbase in Sevastopol and Kerch.

The ISW notes that it cannot independently verify whether Russian air defence forces shot down a Ukrainian drone or whether there was any drone at Kerch or Belbek at all.

The Institute's experts listed possible causes of the explosions in Sevastopol and Kerch:

an attack by the AFU;

actions of Ukrainian intelligence;

poor handling of their equipment by the Russians;

successful actions of the Russian air defence system;

frayed nerves of the Russian occupiers, who are probably preparing for attacks in areas previously considered unreachable by the Ukrainian army.

According to ISW, Ukrainian forces are likely to continue a campaign of strikes against Russian military facilities in occupied Crimea to weaken the occupiers' logistics capabilities and their ability to support operations on the western bank of the Dnieper River.

We remind you that on Thursday, August 18, powerful explosions were reported in temporarily occupied Crimea near Russia's largest airbase, Belbek. Also locals in Kerch reported at least two explosions. According to eyewitnesses, the sounds of loud explosions were heard in the vicinity of the Crimean bridge.
