The Ukrainian government has approved the decision to terminate the intergovernmental agreement with Belarus on industrial, scientific and technical cooperation between enterprises and organizations of the defence industries. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has been instructed to notify the Belarusian side about the approved decision, Radio Svaboda reports.

Belarus and Ukraine signed an intergovernmental agreement on industrial, scientific, and technical cooperation between enterprises and organizations of the defense industries on June 25, 2001. It came into legal force on July 1, 2002.

The agreement provided for mutually advantageous cooperation between Belarusian and Ukrainian business entities in developing and producing military goods and services for military purposes, and also in supplying materials, semi-finished products, parts, training and auxiliary equipment for their own needs required for manufacturing weapons and military equipment.

The agreement was signed for a three-year term with an automatic extension. It will expire six months after the receipt of a written notice from the other party to withdraw from the agreement.

The Ukrainian government approved the decision on denunciation on August 2.
