The regime is panic-stricken by the leader of the Belarusian opposition.

Belarusian opposition leader Statkevich has been moved to a "more spacious" ward. It is seven centimeters wider than the previous one.

"The major news is that he is taken to the ward on the floor above. It is seven centimeters wider. It's enough to pass by the bedside table to the wall opposite the door," political prisoner Statkevich wrote in a letter to his wife Maryna Adamovich.

"As a result, now, though zigzagging, it is possible to walk five steps through the cell. It made my 'walks' more "intensive". Meanwhile, they really decided to change the design in the walking courtyards. Not the landscape but grates. Something was wrong with the bars. They do not say when it will be over," Statkevich writes.

The politician has not taken a walk for more than a month. One explains it by "the repair works in the prison yard," notes Maryna Adamovich. "Just like that, all of a sudden, all the yards are being repaired". Given the scale and timing, I wondered if it was landscaping."

"... This ward is dry now. It wasn't always like this judging by the blackened ceiling and walls in one of the corners. They say the roof was repaired. The fall will show.

... I gradually increase my physical exercises. I have three "walks" in the ward for 30-40 minutes during the day and one for 20-30 minutes in the evening. During the daytime "walks" I do physical exercises. Given the size of the ward, I had to introduce exercises with a "dumbbell" that I use a 1.5-liter PET bottle. I have to carry this "dumbbell" about 800 times a day because of its small weight. This number will grow in the course of time," Statkevich wrote in the letter.

Leader of the Belarusian opposition Mikalai Statkevich was arrested on May 31, 2020. In December 2021, he was sentenced to 14 years in a maximum security penal colony. He is serving his sentence in Hlubokaye. In early August, he was taken to solitary confinement of three square meters.
