The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated that the Russian occupation troops lost 25 tanks over the past two days.

Why does the Russian Federation lose its armoured vehicles increasingly?

The website Charter97.org asked this question to military analyst and officer of the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) Yigal Levin.

– The Russian Federation is now developing an offensive that has been talked about so much in the media, including officials, the Main Intelligence Directorate and the Ministry of Defence. The Russians are trying to advance near Vuhledar and on some other axes, while accumulating military equipment.

For example, just a day ago we saw deployed tanks literally in a column and tried to attack as we had on February 24-25 last year. Of course, they were defeated, because Ukrainian soldiers have gained experience over the past year. Also, we must not forget that the means of destruction have become much wider.

It is a very bad idea to put so many vehicles together. But let's wish them "success", they are doing everything right and well. Let the Russians continue to accumulate their equipment, and Ukraine will burn it.

– Ukraine receives the Leopards and Abrams. Will this change tank battles in Ukraine significantly?

– Tank clashes are not common in modern warfare. The Leopards and Abrams will not meet Russian tanks most likely, and if they do, then these will be specific cases. If this happens, and at the same time the Ukrainian crew of a Leopard or Abrams tank is well prepared, then the Russian tank has practically no chance. Western tanks are a head or two superior to any Soviet or Russian tanks.

I would like to repeat, whether western tanks will change the overall combat or not depends on the operational use. A tank can be burned down like Russia burns its entire columns, or it can be used in such a way that it becomes a decisive factor on the battlefield. It all depends on the commanders and the training of the crews.

But even a company of tanks is a large and formidable tactical force in some areas and can turn the tide of battle. Let me emphasize that this is a course of battles not at the strategic level, but at the tactical, local level. Let me remind you that a Ukrainian company has 10 tanks, and a NATO company has 14 units.
