ISW: Russians Launch Offensive In Luhansk Region

The AFU can use it to counterattack.

The pace of Russian operations along the Svatove-Kreminna line in western Luhansk Region has increased over the past week.

This is reported by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

Analysts point out that geolocation footage of the fighting confirms the movement of Russian troops northwest of Svatove. The Russian military command has fully engaged units of several divisions in the offensive in this section of the front line.

"Units of the 144 Regiment and 3 Motorized Rifle Division (20th General Army, Western Military District) and a regiment of the 90 Tank Division (Central Military District), supported by units of the 76 Airborne Division and undefined units of the Southern Military District are conducting offensive operations," the report reads.

The ISW informs that the relevant facts indicate that the Russian offensive has started, at the same time Ukrainian forces are preventing the enemy from making significant progress.

Specialists explain that the occupiers are trying to seize the initiative in Luhansk Region. This could lead to their eventual culmination at the Svatove-Kreminna line without achieving the goals of capturing the entire Luhansk and Donetsk regions.

"This culmination will give Ukrainian forces a window of opportunity that can be used in their own counter-offensive," the Institute for the Study of War added.
