Staged, System Crisis Or Russian Trace: What Happened In Hrodna

The main versions of a possible attack on the KGB special forces.

On 19 March, explosions and gunshots were heard in Hrodna. Eyewitnesses reported that they were heard on Kurchatov and Vrublevsky streets.

Propaganda later claimed that a foreigner was "liquidated" in Hrodna during the detention.

"On March 19, 2023, a foreign citizen L. was liquidated in Hrodna in Kurchatov street. The said person, using automatic weapons and by detonating military grenades, offered armed resistance to the fighters of the special unit of KGB group A," reported BelTA.

Later, there were reports that the police and demining services with dogs came to the house of the chairman of Hrodna Regional Executive Committee, Uladzimir Karanik. Therefore, we can assume that the official's house was "mined".

A staged provocation or another sign of the regime's crisis? The Charter97.org website has gathered the main opinions about the incident in Grodno.

The Nick and Mike telegram channel calls what happened in Hrodna an important signal showing the weakness of the system:

1. The regime's security system is in the deepest crisis. If propaganda is to be believed, an entire arsenal can easily be brought into the country.

2. Relations with the West, namely with Old Europe, are now past the point of no return.

3. Given that point 1 is difficult to acknowledge, and the "the one who got shot belongs to a sabotage-reconnaissance group" principle keeps working, another "brave" officers will be rewarded promptly.

The MKB telegram channel called the shooting in Hrodna a performance:

- Some sources report that the "explosive events in Hrodna" are a show from start to finish.

The purpose is to show "the effective work of the security forces to Lukashenka, who is still very angry with the KGB and others for the Machulishchy operation".

It is worth noting that the Ukrainian special services warned a week before the events in Hrodna that Russia was preparing provocations in Belarus. Ukrainian Security Service reserve major-general Viktor Yahun, former deputy head of the Security Service of Ukraine, said the house of one of the Lukashenka activists could become the target.
