Alexander Fridman: Lukashenka If Crossed Off

Now the dictator cannot avoid new problems.

Political scientist Alexander Fridman commented on the statement of Russian President Vladimir Putin on the deployment of nuclear weapons in Belarus:

“Nothing changes for the Western countries: they did not doubt that Russian nuclear weapons would appear in Belarus sooner or later. If in Kyiv they hoped for Lukashenka's independence, albeit limited, then at the latest today these hopes can be put to rest. By agreeing to the deployment of Russian nuclear weapons, the ruler shows that in case of “necessity”, all other wishes of the Russian Federation will be fulfilled.

Warsaw, Riga and Vilnius have had no illusions regarding Lukashenka for a long time. They put an equal sign between Putin and Lukashenka, and now Poland and the Baltic countries have another argument in the debate about increasing sanctions pressure on Minsk. Apparently, Belarus cannot avoid new sanctions.

But the sanctions are only a trifle compared to the fate of the Belarusians, who now fall under the “nuclear umbrella”, which is controlled by a cornered war criminal from the Kremlin.
