FSB Detains WSJ Journalist In Yekaterinburg

Evan Gershkovich is accused of "espionage in favour of the American side".

A criminal case was initiated against a Wall Street Journal correspondent. American citizen Evan Gershkovich was arrested on espionage charges in Yekaterinburg. This was reported by TASS with reference to the Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB).

According to the publication, the FSB detained the journalist.

“It has been established that Evan Gershkovich, acting on instructions from the American side, was collecting information constituting a state secret about the activities of one of the enterprises of the Russian defence industry. While trying to obtain secret information, a foreigner was detained in Yekaterinburg," TASS reported.

Earlier, Russian media reported that during a business trip to Yekaterinburg, the editors of the Wall Street Journal lost contact with their journalist.

Journalist Dmitry Kolezev wrote that Mr Gershkovich travelled to Yekaterinburg to write about attitudes towards the war and the Wagner PMC recruitment among the local residents.
