Belarus Adopts Bill On ‘People's Volunteer Army’ In First Reading

Khrenin and Zaitsev presented the project.

The deputies adopted the bill on the People's Volunteer Army in the first reading. This was reported by the press service of the "tents".

Belarusian Defense Minister Viktar Khrenin and Yevgeny Zaytsev, a member of the National Security Permanent Commission of the so-called House of Representatives, presented the bill project.

“The bill is aimed at ‘voluntary participation’ to provide martial law time in the Republic of Belarus,” the “House” reported.

Now the bill must pass the second reading in the “House”, get the approval of the “Council of the Republic” and go to be signed by Lukashenka, then it will become a “law”.

Despite the fact that there is no law on the “people's volunteer army” yet, such detachments are already being formed in some regions of Belarus. The first experiment took place in the fall of 2022 on the basis of the Labzhanski Village Council of the Klimavichy District of the Mahiliou Region. In April, such exercises were held in the Barysau District, two districts of the Hrodna Region, in May - in the Vaukavysk District.
