Palina Sharenda-Panasyuk's Trial Date Announced

Judge Stanislau Ivanyutsenka has been appointed to handle her case.

The trial of Palina Sharenda-Panasyuk, an activist of the European Belarus civil campaign, in a new criminal case will begin on October 14 in the Rechytsa District Court, the Viasna human rights center reports.

The case will be heard by Judge Stanislau Ivanyutsenka, who already added a year to the woman's prison time last year, human rights activists note.

Palina Sharenda-Panasyuk was detained on January 3, 2021. Law-enforcers broke down the door to her apartment, conducted a search, confiscated a number of things, and then Palina was detained and taken in handcuffs to the temporary detention center. She was later transferred to a pre-trial detention center.

On June 9, 2021, the Maskouski District Court of Brest sentenced her to two years in prison, after which her term was extended several times.

Over the years, she has been placed in a punishment cell several times, and also sent to the cell-type premises for six months. Palina remains in complete isolation. The European Belarus activist's health has deteriorated significantly in the colony.
