Israeli Special Services Eliminate Leader Of ‘Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades’

Special Forces fighters shot his car.

IDF fighters operating under the guidance of the Israel General Security Service (‘Shin Bet’, or ‘Shabak’) killed five Palestinian militants, including Isam al-Salaja, who commanded the formation of the armed group of ‘al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades’ in the Balata refugee camp, reports the Israeli police. According to the Israeli publication of Vesti, special forces fighters shot his car in the street in the middle of the day.

The fighters jumped out of the car and opened fire on the vehicle, which was carrying four Palestinians. The car was then surrounded by a crowd. A firefight broke out, during which another suspected militant was killed.

As noted by ‘Vesti’, Issam al-Salaj survived three assassination attempts by Israeli security forces. In June 2023, IDF forces surrounded his home, but he managed to escape.

‘Police anti-terrorist special forces fighters, using accurate intelligence from Shabak, eliminated wanted terrorists in Shechem. The armed militants posed a direct threat to our forces. They were engaged in preparing and carrying out terrorist acts against the State of Israel and its citizens,’ the IDF, Shabak and Israel Police said in a joint statement.

‘The al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades’ is the paramilitary wing of Fatah (Movement for the National Liberation of Palestine). Fatah is a key branch of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO), chaired by Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas. Fatah controls the West Bank region, with its capital in the city of Ramallah.
