Speaker: ICC May Investigate Belarus' Involvement In Deporting Ukrainian Children
FADI EL ABDALLAH

Lukashenka is getting closer to The Hague.

The probable involvement of Belarus in the deportation of Ukrainian children falls under the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court, despite the fact that Minsk has not signed the Rome Statute.

This was told by the representative of the court, Fadi el Abdallah, at a meeting at the ICC in The Hague, reports Radio Svaboda.

The representative emphasised that such crimes could have been committed on the territory of Ukraine.

‘That is, regardless of whether the children were brought to Russia or elsewhere, such acts may fall under the jurisdiction of the ICC if the abduction itself was at least partially committed on Ukrainian territory,’ Abdallah said.’

The journalists reminded that in late September, human rights activists called on the ICC to investigate Belarus and Russia, claiming evidence that hundreds of Ukrainian children were forcibly taken to Belarus during Russia's full-scale invasion.

There they are being ‘re-educated’ to oppose their Ukraine, the Belarusian service of Radio Svaboda wrote.
