Lukashenka expressed dissatisfaction with the status.
Lukashenka signed a letter to Putin about Minsk's readiness to "join BRICS as a partner," the press service of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry reported.
The document, signed on November 5, was handed over by the head of the department, Maksim Ryzhenkou, to the Russian Ambassador Boris Gryzlov on November 11.
The Foreign Ministry noted that the official response to the written invitation is "an obligatory element of the procedure for obtaining partner status agreed upon by the member states": "It is from this moment that the country is officially considered a BRICS partner."
Earlier, Lukashenka expressed dissatisfaction with the status of a partner, not a BRICS member. The dictator called it an "anteroom".
