Civil Servants Join Protests In Tbilisi

The protesters occupied the carriageway and blocked the motorway.

Public sector workers came out to protest in Tbilisi against the government's postponement of negotiations on Georgia's accession to the EU. Teachers and doctors were among them.

This is reported by Interpressnews.

In the evening of December 11, the protesters occupied the carriageway and blocked the motorway on Rustaveli Avenue.

Before that, the people, who are employed in the public sector, marched in a procession from Republic Square to the Parliament and joined the action. The protesters met the procession of civil servants with applause.

Protests in the centre of the Georgian capital have been going on for 14 consecutive days. The current night of anti-government protests in Tbilisi is passing quietly.

A new peak of protest is expected closer to Saturday, December 14, when parliament is scheduled to elect a new president.

The previous night former TV presenter Gocha Tkeshelashvili addressed the crowd again. He urged citizens to fight peacefully. According to him, the people must stand together now more than ever for the sake of the future of the country.

The demand of the protesters does not change - to appoint new elections and release the citizens detained during the protest rallies.
