Bomb shelters for civilians in the city were closed.
Russia said that it would definitely respond to the attack with ATACMS missiles on the airfield in Taganrog.
This was stated to journalists by the press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov at a briefing, reports Focus.
“I would like to recall the absolutely unambiguous and direct statement of the Russian Defense Ministry, which was made yesterday, where it was clearly stated that a response will follow,” Peskov said.
He emphasized that “the response will follow when and in the way that is deemed appropriate”. “But it will definitely follow,” the Kremlin spokesman assured.
A day earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry officially acknowledged that on the morning of December 11, 2024, a missile strike was carried out on the Taganrog military airfield in the Rostov region.
“During the investigation, it was reliably established that six American-made ATACMS ballistic missiles were used,” the department reported.
They also noted that “two missiles were shot down by the combat crew of the Pantsir air defense missile and gun system, the rest were deflected by electronic warfare systems.”
They mysteriously reported that as a result of the fall of missile fragments there were casualties “among the personnel”, but did not report how many were injured. They admitted that two buildings in the technical area of the airfield and three units of military vehicles, as well as civilian cars in the parking lot adjacent to the airfield, were damaged.
“This attack by Western long-range weapons will not go unanswered, appropriate measures will be taken,” the Russian Defense Ministry summarized.
At the same time, in Taganrog itself, they said that the bomb shelters were closed while the air raid alarm was sounding, and confirmed that there were many casualties, since residents were asked to donate blood. And they complained that there was no heating in the city for several hours.
Some complained that missiles “deflected” by Russian air defenses were flying at civilians.
