Biden Pardons Record Number Of Prisoners With One Order
JOE BIDEN

The US President pardoned 39 people and commuted the sentences of about 1,500 prisoners.

US President Joe Biden pardoned 39 people convicted of non-violent crimes and commuted the sentences of about 1,500 more prisoners, the White House press service reported.

“I will take additional steps in the coming weeks. My administration will continue to review clemency petitions to ensure equal justice under the law, promote public safety, support rehabilitation and reentry into society, and provide second chances,” Biden said.

The White House did not publish the names of those pardoned. They noted that the current decision was the largest one-time pardon in modern history.

“He [Biden] also became the first president to pardon individuals convicted of marijuana use and possession, as well as former military personnel convicted of private expressions of their non-traditional sexual orientation,” the White House said in a statement. Biden's term ends on January 20, following the inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump. Earlier, he announced a “full and unconditional” pardon for his 54-year-old son Hunter Biden, who faced multiple criminal charges, including illegal gun possession and tax evasion.
