Russia Afraid For Belarusian 'Naftan'

However, the Russian military have their own air defence problems.

At the celebration of the 81st anniversary of the 377th anti-aircraft missile regiment, its commander Colonel Ryabinin announced that the unit is ready to be rearmed with the Russian S-400 system. He also announced plans to reinforce the regiment with Tor M2 and Pantsir S1 SAMs.

The regiment is stationed in Polotsk district and covers local industry, including the Naftan oil refinery. A Charter97.org reader believes that Russia is particularly afraid for the Belarusian enterprise:

- After the smashing of Russian refineries by Ukraine, Belarusian fuel enterprises became strategically important for the Russian Federation. Putin would love to strengthen the air defence of an ally, but he does not have the necessary amount of weapons to do so.

The delivery of Pantsirs to Belarus has been announced since 2021, but not a single system has been delivered. The experience of the war also showed that the advertised Russian SAMs proved ineffective against Ukrainian strikes.
