Exhibition Dedicated To Ales Bialiatski In The Hague

On July 13, an exhibition dedicated to Ales Bialiatski, a Belarusian political prisoner, founder and head of the Viasna Human Rights Center, winner of the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize, was opened in The Hague with the support of the European Commission.
During the opening of the exhibition, speeches were made by the Belarusians of the Netherlands and public and political figures of the country.
The MÁRA Association of Belarusians in the Netherlands representative spoke about his acquaintance with Ales Bialiatski and his inspiration as an exemplary Belarusian, as well as about his personal human rights path.
Valeryia Kalesnik, a political refugee from Belarus, shared her story of participation in protests and detention. In her speech, Valeryia also drew attention to the terrible situation with political prisoners in Belarus and the need for international support for the democratic movement of Belarusians.
Christy Medema from the human rights organization Libereco recalled that Bialiatski received the Dutch Human Rights Tulip award, and spoke about the #WeStandBYyou campaign dedicated to political prisoners in Belarus, which has already been joined by many MP from different countries.
Vincent Thepass, a representative of the GroenLinks political party and the City Hall of The Hague, stressed the importance and symbolism of the fact that the exhibition is held in The Hague: in the city of peace and justice, and offered cooperation between the Hague City Council and the Belarusian community.
The exhibition will run from July 13 to August 9 at Het Atrium Den Haag, Spui 70, Den Haag (Hague Cement, Forum zijde entrance) during working hours of the Hague Cements (Municipal Administration).

Ales Bialiatski was detained on July 14, 2021.
On October 7, 2022, Bialiatski became the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize.
On March 3, 2023, in the Leninsky District Court of Minsk, Judge Maryna Zapasnik sentenced the head of the Viasna HRC and the Nobel Prize winner to 10 years in medium-security prison.
The exhibition dedicated to Ales Bialiatski was also held this year in the Senate of Poland in Warsaw.
