The Ukrainian offensive in Kursk region is aimed at stretching the Russian army and destabilizing the situation in Russia.

This was stated by a high-ranking Ukrainian official in the security sphere, writes Deutsche Welle citing AFP.

According to him, thousands of Ukrainian troops are participating in the operation.

"We are conducting an offensive. The goal is to stretch the enemy's positions, inflict maximum losses and destabilize the situation in Russia, since it is unable to protect its own border," the official noted.

He assured that Ukraine will comply with international law during the offensive in Kursk region.

At the same time, according to the official, it has not yet been possible to slow down the offensive of Russian troops in eastern Ukraine.
