Belarusian Railways Deputy Chief Fired After Detention

For ‘violation of a written obligation’.
Siarhei Sizin was dismissed from the post of Deputy Chief of Belarusian Railways for violating a written obligation, stipulated by the legislation on combating corruption. This is stated in the resolution of the Council of Ministers № 587 of August 9, which was published on the National legal Internet portal on August 15.
‘To dismiss Siarhei Sizin from the post of Deputy Head of the Belarusian Railway Association in connection with the failure to comply with the written agreement, stipulated by the anti-corruption legislation (paragraph 51 of the first part of Article 47 of the Labour Code of the Republic of Belarus),’ reads the document.
In late July, the Community of Railwaymen reported about a number of detentions among the Belarusian Railways management. According to the initiative, the law enforcers had claims, including those against Deputy Chief of Belarusian Railways Siarhei Sizin, who supervised the activities of track facilities, signalling and communications, electrification and power supply.
In early June, it was reported about the detention of the first deputy head of Belarusian Railways Piotr Dulub. According to the information of the Community of Railwaymen, it happened on May 18. In mid-June Dulub was dismissed from his post with the same wording as Sizin.
On August 12, Lukashenka appointed a new head of Belarusian Railways. Valery Verenich, who had previously held the position of first deputy at the Ministry of Transport and Communications, became the new head.
