The trial of the high-profile case of sabotage at the Machulishchy airfield has begun in Minsk, writes Viasna. HRC.
Charges have been brought against 12 people, most of them in absentia. They are charged under 11 articles of the Criminal Code, including “act of terrorism” (Part 3 of Article 289 of the Criminal Code) and “treason” (Part 1 of Article 356 of the Criminal Code).
The case is being heard behind closed doors.
The main defendant in the case is Mikalai Shvets, he was released in June in a prisoner exchange with Ukraine. Propagandists called him the perpetrator of the sabotage. However, among the accused are people who are inside Belarus, and they face long prison terms. Shvets himself is being tried in absentia.
