ICC Says Mongolia Must Arrest Putin

Previously, this was declared by the Ukrainian authorities.

The Mongolian authorities are obliged to arrest Russian President Vladimir Putin if he visits the country next week, International Criminal Court (ICC) spokesman Fadi El-Abdallah told the BBC.

According to him, the ICC expects member states, including Mongolia, “to cooperate and implement the decision.”

“If there is no cooperation, the ICC judges may make a decision and inform the Assembly of States Parties about it. The Assembly should then take any measures it deems appropriate,” he said.

Previously, the Ukrainian authorities called on Ulaanbaatar to arrest Putin on a court order. “In connection with the information about the planned visit of Vladimir Putin to Mongolia at the invitation of the President of Mongolia Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, we declare the following: we call on the Mongolian authorities to execute the mandatory international arrest warrant and transfer Putin to the International Criminal Court in the Hague,” the country’s Foreign Ministry said.
