Sheiman: Belarus Preserves Nuclear Missile Silos

They are allegedly mothballed.

Viktar Sheiman, the first state secretary of the Security Council of Belarus in 1994-2000 and 2006-2008 and a close associate of Lukashenka, has admitted on state TV that the regime violated agreements on destroying nuclear missile silos.

"Before the presidential election, an agreement was signed that we should also destroy the sites of deployment of these nuclear missiles. We were supposed to blow up the silos. We did one detonation of a silo - it collapsed. There appeared environmental problems. The forest was destroyed over a pretty large area, the soil was mangled. And the president decided not to blow up any more of those silos. They had to be mothballed and kept," he added.

That's why, according to him, all the mines, where intercontinental ballistic missiles were located, except for one, have been preserved in Belarus, said Sheiman.

The New York Times wrote that Russian nuclear weapons were deployed in Belarus in Asipovichy. The Russians allegedly built a special base there.
