A referendum is possible.
The operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region has been going on for more than a month, but Ukraine does not consider the Russian region and the settlements that it controls to be its subject. The head of the Council of Reserves of the Ground Forces and a veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war Ivan Timochko spoke about this in more detail on the air of Ranok.LIVE.
According to him, the Kursk region is an autonomous region of Russia and therefore has the right to provide for itself independently. Kyiv is not obliged to take responsibility for this territory, since it did not declare it its own. However, everything can change under one condition.
“If the Kursk region as a subject of the Russian Federation holds some kind of internal referendum, or the local population appeal to the territorial leadership with a request to include them in Ukraine or take them under guardianship, then we can discuss this,” Ivan Timochko said.
As of today, there is no such information, therefore Ukraine does not consider Russian territories as its subject and cannot claim that it will always be there.
