The situation does not appear to develop in his favor.
In the coming weeks, dictator Lukashenka will have a very big surprise. Belarusian political scientist Dzmitry Balkunets wrote about this in Telegram:
— Aliaksandr Lukashenka continues active attempts to find external support before the next “election”. On October 22-24, 2024, he plans to attend the BRICS summit in Kazan, and on November 17, he will go to the World Climate Summit in Baku. These trips can be seen as the last attempts to secure support in the international arena.
The situation does not appear favorable for him. In September 2020, at a meeting with Putin in Sochi, he received a loan of $ 1.5 billion under guarantees of political transition and leaving office. Even early elections in 2020-2021 were discussed, but these plans were not implemented as anticipated. The Kremlin Politburo stands against his participation in the upcoming election, citing, among other things, his deteriorating health.
In addition, China has discussed the issue of Lukashenka's departure several times in recent months. As for the West, everything has long been clear. There has never been such unity among external players on the issue of replacing Lukashenka.
