The Russian drone that crashed in Latvia turned out to be a “Shahed” loaded with explosives. This was announced at a press conference on September 9 by the leadership of the Latvian National Armed Forces (NAF), Delfi writes.
The drone was neutralized. It is currently being analyzed.
NAF Commander Leonids Kalniņš emphasized that the drone was monitored from the moment it entered Latvian airspace. According to him, the drone was not destroyed because they were not sure that it was a military object.
The commander of the Latvian Air Force explained that the aircraft did not take off because the necessary criteria for this were not met. Defense Minister Andris Spruds said that in connection with the incident, Latvia is strengthening air defense on the eastern border. He said that this issue will be raised at a meeting of the NATO Council.
Let us recall that the drone crashed in the Rezekne region of Latvia on September 7. Earlier, the Latvian Ministry of Defense stated that the drone could have entered from the territory of Belarus.
