This is legal and legitimate.
Western countries should “untie the hands” of Ukraine and allow its army to use long-range missiles against legitimate targets on the territory of the Russian Federation.
This was stated by the Chief of the General Staff of the Czech Army Karel Řehka on Czech television, Novoye Vremya reports.
He also stressed that defending territory is legitimate for Ukraine.
“These restrictions must be lifted, because it is legal and legitimate for Ukrainians to defend themselves, even when attacking Russian territory, because they cannot box with one hand tied behind their back... Planes take off from Russian airfields that are within the range of their weapons, but Ukrainians cannot use them. And these planes then bomb civilian infrastructure, not just soldiers. Therefore, it would be quite normal for Ukrainians to be able to attack Russian territory,” Řehka said.
He noted that Russia constantly threatens escalation, but does not hesitate to use missiles against Ukrainian civilian cities.
The fact that Russians often do not go beyond threats was demonstrated by the Ukrainian operation in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation. It showed some Western leaders that they should not be afraid of escalation and “red lines,” the general noted, adding that “this unexpected action also attracted the attention of Western allies.” This in itself was the result of the actions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Kursk, even if the probable goal of easing pressure in the Donbas was not realized.
The general also reiterated the need to prepare for a possible conflict with Russia, because this is the only way to contain the Russian Federation.
