It has become known what it will do.
The U.S. military's Southern Command, which is responsible for Latin America and the Caribbean, is creating a task force "to combat drugs in the Western Hemisphere."
This is reported by press service of the U.S. Southern Command.
It is noted that the special unit will track and intercept drug shipments, share intelligence with security and military agencies of the U.S. and other countries.
It will also "enhance the capabilities" of other nations in counter-narcotics operations - the team will do this through counseling and joint operations.
According to Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth, the creation of the unit was ordered by US President Donald Trump.
"The message is clear: if you take drugs to our shores, we will stop you where you stand," Hegseth said.
