NATO Defense Ministers To Meet In Brussels

Key topics of discussion have become known.

NATO defense ministers will meet in Brussels tomorrow, October 15. They will discuss strengthening the Alliance's deterrence and defense, building on decisions taken at the summit in The Hague, as well as further support for Ukraine.

A NATO official told RBC-Ukraine.

This meeting of NATO ministers will be the first since the summit of the Alliance's leaders in The Hague in June this year.

They will discuss progress on NATO's new objectives to ensure that the armed forces are best equipped and ready to protect citizens.

The ministers will also take stock of the collective deterrence and defense posture and measures taken to further strengthen it. They will also exchange views on the implementation of NATO missions and operations, in particular Eastern Watch, Baltic Watch, KFOR and the NATO mission in Iraq.

In addition, they will discuss further support to Ukraine, whose security is closely linked to that of NATO. It will be raised at a NATO-Ukraine Council meeting with Ukrainian Defense Minister Denis Shmygal and EU High Representative Kai Kallas.

The NATO official noted continued efforts to end the war against Ukraine and ensure a just and lasting peace.

He said it is crucial that Ukraine receives the urgent military assistance it needs to defend itself today and deter future aggression.

NATO plays a key role in coordinating this assistance, in particular through the Wiesbaden Command (NATO Security and Training Programme for Ukraine, NSATU) and through Ukraine's Priority Needs List (PURL).

After the NATO Defence Ministers' meeting, a meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine's Defence, organized by Germany and the UK, will be held at NATO Headquarters.
