He was stripped of his Ukrainian citizenship.
The Commission under the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky on citizenship based on the evidence base of the SBU has decided to terminate Ukrainian citizenship to the mayor of Odessa Gennady Trukhanov. This was reported by the Security Service's press center on Facebook on October 14.
"As established by the SBU, as of today the current mayor of Odessa, Gennady Trukhanov, is a citizen of the Russian Federation and has a valid passport of the aggressor country," the report said.
The intelligence service said it had copies of the relevant documents.
"Thus, according to the available data, on December 15, 2015, already after the beginning of aggression against Ukraine and the temporary occupation of Crimea, as well as parts of Donetsk and Lugansk regions, Gennady Leonidovich Trukhanov received a passport of the occupying country. It was issued for a period of 10 years and is a valid document", - stated in the message.
According to the SBU, in 2017, representatives of Trukhanov applied to the Russian authorized bodies and eventually the court in the Moscow region canceled his internal passport of the Russian Federation.
"But in additional explanations [the court] reported that the cancellation or refusal of the person from such a document "does not entail deprivation of citizenship of the Russian Federation, acquired by the person on a legal basis," the Ukrainian security service pointed out.
Thereby, Gennady Trukhanov still remains a citizen of the aggressor country of the Russian Federation, and also has an identification code displayed in the database of the Federal Tax Service of the Russian Federation, the SBU summarized.
