How Tomahawks Got Lukashenko Talking

The dictator took Trump's hint.

Against the background of the prospect of Ukraine receiving American Tomahawks, Lukashenka recalled the big deal with the United States. He said that he was ready to be the first to make concessions, taking the Americans at their word. Because the deadline seems to be pressing. And if you don't agree to a big deal now, then later they will offer nothing and give nothing, writes the planbmedia.io.

Lukashenko gathered all those responsible for global international relations at a meeting devoted to the big foreign policy. That is, the prime minister, the head of his administration, the secretary of the Security Council, the prosecutor general and the chairman of the KGB.

The foreign minister was not gathered. The Foreign Minister was busy with more important foreign affairs at that time. Maxim Ryzhenkov was attending a summit of the Non-Aligned Movement countries in Uganda.

On the one hand, the foreign minister is of no use in big international politics anyway. On the other hand, they could have waited for him out of politeness. But the deadline, apparently, is pressing. At least those who were gathered looked somewhat puzzled.

They should not have looked so. Lukashenko suddenly announced that it was time to tell the Belarusian people about his big deal with the United States. But before telling the people, he'd like to first consult on what exactly to say now.

"We will inform our population in detail. But perhaps it's time to say something about it," Lukashenko said. "But before saying anything about the Belarusian-American relations, I would like to consult with you today."

Trump talked to Lukashenko about the big deal to release 1400-1500 Belarusian political hostages back in August. And after that he reminded about it more than once. But the Belarusian authorities pretended that they did not understand the hints. And Lukashenko kept waiting for Trump to make him a more generous offer. And suddenly:

"We can make the first steps, expecting the Americans to fulfill what they promised," Lukashenko said Tuesday. - "We are ready to make a big deal with them."

He was not offended that Belavia's life became more difficult after the lifting of U.S. sanctions on Belavia than it was with the sanctions. And he said that, of course, it's humanly unpleasant for him when the U.S. continues to support democratic institutions, but he can survive it.

"Unfortunately, the U.S. administration is still implementing a policy to promote some pseudo-democratic values," said Lukashenko. - Well, it's their business where to spend their money."

In general, the red lines that Lukashenko drew in relations with the Americans have shifted considerably. And there is apparently one simple reason for that. Lukashenko himself admitted that the Americans are interested in him mainly as a transfer link to Putin.

But by threatening to hand over Tomahawks to Ukraine, Trump is transparently hinting that he is no longer as interested in negotiations with Putin as he used to be. And along with the interest in negotiations, the benefit from Lukashenko is also going into the negative area. So it is really better not to delay the deal. Otherwise, Trump might forget.

In short, a good word and Tomahawk can do much more than just a good word. Even if no one is going to launch these Tomahawks in your direction.
