Lithuania Will Restore Bogs On The Border With Belarus

Lithuania will restore marshes along its border to use them as a line of defense in case of an invasion by Belarus, the Lithuanian publication LRT

Now experts from the Ministry of Environment are figuring out in which areas the restoration of marshes makes the most sense.

"Preliminary estimates show that about three to four percent of border areas could be converted back into wetlands. We are waiting for a final assessment from the Armed Forces," said Deputy Defense Minister Tomas Godliauskas.

About 10 million euros will be allocated for pilot peatland restoration projects next year.
