U.S. Treasury Department chief Scott Bessent announced a significant tightening of sanctions against Russia on October 22, U.S. MSNBC correspondent Jake Traylor reported.
"A significant tightening of sanctions against Russia will be announced either late today or tomorrow morning," Bessent was quoted as saying by the reporter.
Earlier on October 22, Senators Jim Risch and Jean Shaheen told Suspicuous that the Senate Foreign Relations Committee supported three legislative initiatives targeting Russia because of the war it started against Ukraine. One of them proposes to recognize Russia as a state-sponsor of terrorism.
According to the lawmakers, these are the following documents:
the STOP Russia and China bill;
the bill to amend the Rebuilding Economic Prosperity and Opportunity for Ukrainians Act (REPO act), which provides for improving the mechanism for using frozen Russian sovereign assets in favor of Ukraine;
the bill to recognize Russia as a state-sponsor of terrorism.
