Declared that "Trump is on the warpath with Russia."
US President Donald Trump has opted for war by canceling a meeting with Vladimir Putin in Hungary and imposing sanctions against Rosneft and Lukoil, announced Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitri Medvedev. "If any of the many commentators still had illusions - get this. The United States is our adversary, and their talkative 'peacemaker' has now fully embarked on the warpath with Russia," he noted.
Medvedev said that while Trump is "not always actively fighting" on Kiev's side, but "this is now his conflict," not former U.S. President Joe Biden.
On October 23, Trump announced the cancellation of a summit with Putin in Budapest, where he had planned to continue discussing the end of Russia's war against Ukraine. As the head of the White House explained, he concluded that now they will not be able to "accomplish the goal." According to Trump, he has always had the feeling that Putin "wants to take all of Ukraine," but the US will not let that happen. "We don't want him to have everything," the American leader emphasized.
Simultaneously with the summit's cancellation, Trump imposed sanctions against Russia's two largest oil companies - Rosneft and Lukoil, saying "the time has come." "We've waited long enough, I thought we'd be able to (end the war in Ukraine) long before the Middle East," he said. Trump expressed hope that Putin would "become more reasonable" afterward.
