Because of the National Guard coming in.
The state of Illinois and the city of Chicago on Monday sued the administration of US President Donald Trump following his decision to send 300 National Guard members to the state, CNN reported.
"Defendants' dispatch of federal troops to Illinois is patently illegal. Plaintiffs ask the Court to halt the illegal, dangerous, and unconstitutional federalization of members of the United States National Guard," the lawsuit states.
The suit, filed in U.S. District Court in Illinois, alleges that the deployment of National Guard troops is politically motivated. It also alleges that Trump has repeatedly made "threatening and derogatory" remarks about Chicago and the state of Illinois. The defendants include the president, Homeland Security Secretary Christy Noem and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
The White House said Oct. 5 that President Donald Trump had ordered 300 National Guard troops to be deployed to Illinois. The decision was made "amid ongoing violent rioting and lawlessness that local authorities refuse to curb."
In Chicago, as in other U.S. cities, protests continue against the increased presence of federal forces and large-scale anti-immigration raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers.
