And call an early presidential election.

Former French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe has called on President Emmanuel Macron to resign due to the worsening political crisis in the country. This was reported by Politico on October 7.

"I am not in favor of an immediate and brutal resignation ... but [the president] must take the initiative," Philippe said.

He said Macron should "announce an early presidential election" after next year's budget is passed, allowing for proper campaigning after the chaos caused by the government's resignation just 14 hours after key ministers were appointed.

Philippe, who was Macron's prime minister from 2017 to 2020, has already announced his intention to run in the next election. Polls show he has a chance of reaching the second round and facing the far-right National Rally candidate there.
