Russia is plagued by nepotism.
76% of high-ranking Russian officials have relatives who are also employed in public administration or business related to power. This is stated in the "Project" study on nepotism "Fathers and Grandfathers."
The journalists analyzed the biographies of 1,329 people who hold positions in all major spheres of Russian state administration. At least 1,012 of them have relatives who are also in the government, engaged in business related to government contracts, public work financed from the budget, or are in political parties that are de facto subordinate to the Kremlin.
According to "Project", among the authorities, the largest share of officials whose relatives are also related to the civil service is in the Federation Council - 86%. A similar percentage of nepotism is recorded in the State Duma - 84%.
"Project" separately identifies 25 "dynasties" in the government, which include 10 relatives and more. The family of Chechnya's head Ramzan Kadyrov is the most numerous in terms of the number of civil servants - according to journalists' data, 96 of his relatives hold positions in the government or work in businesses related to government contracts.
In addition, a large number of relatives in the civil service have Vladimir Putin (27 people), senator from the Kabardino-Balkar Republic Arsen Kanokov (19), head of Rostec Sergey Chemezov (16), Putin's aide Nikolai Patrushev (15) and director of Rosfinmonitoring Yuri Chikhanchin (15).
