Because of Western sanctions.
Major refiner Yanchang Petroleum has refused to buy Russian crude in its latest crude oil tender for the period from December to mid-February.
According to Reuters.
The Yanchang Petroleum refinery is located in the landlocked northern province of Shaanxi. Previously, it regularly bought Russian oil, usually one batch a month. According to experts, it was usually a blend of ESPO export-grade Far East grade or Sokol, one trader said.
A series of recent Western sanctions on Russian oil supplies has led China's state-owned oil companies and some Indian refineries to avoid buying Russian crude due to concerns about secondary sanctions.
Yanchang Petroleum, which can process 348,000 barrels of crude per day, is one of the largest refineries in inland China and is entitled to an annual import quota of 3.6 million metric tons, or 26 million barrels of crude.
The refinery normally receives imported crude from the port of Tianjin, near Beijing, from where the oil is transported to it by rail.
