U.S. Pulls Troops To Venezuela

An aircraft carrier strike group has been deployed.

The US has launched a large-scale operation off Venezuela to combat drug trafficking. An aircraft carrier strike group has been deployed, which could indicate a possible military intervention.

According to U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hagseth in a social media X.

"President Trump gave the order to act - and the Defense Department is carrying it out.

Under the command of Joint Task Force Southern Spearhead and Southern Command (Southcom - ed.), this mission is protecting our homeland, ridding our hemisphere of narco-terrorists and protecting our homeland from the drugs that are killing our people. The Western Hemisphere is our home, and we will protect it," the report said.

The White House held a meeting on Nov. 11 during which Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Kane and other senior military officials presented President Trump with military options in the region. Among the options considered were possible ground strikes on Venezuela.

A massive buildup of U.S. forces

Warships, F-35 fighter jets and reconnaissance aircraft have been sent to the region. It culminated in the dispatch of an aircraft carrier strike group led by the USS Gerald R. Ford, the world's largest aircraft carrier. On board are up to 5,000 troops, an air wing with F/A-18 Super Hornets fighter jets and long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles.

Activating operations against drug trafficking

The Hill reports that Monday marked the twentieth strike on a ship allegedly involved in drug trafficking, killing four people. Since September, when the boat-shooting campaign began in the Caribbean, the U.S. military has killed at least 80 people without providing evidence they were involved in criminal activity.

The U.S. administration has confirmed that the military buildup is part of a strategy to pressure Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, whom Washington considers an "illegitimate leader."
